A Silver Lining : COVID - 19

COVID 19 has not been the best situation for the world and it has definitely affected everything - from economy and globalization on the large scale to our own personal and professional lives. However, amidst all the dilemma and delusion, it wouldn't be wrong to say that the circumstances have made us all realise that there is in all reality something larger than us humans, something that has the power to control all our lives, something that can override the greatest of man's advancement in science and technology. Everyone may have different religious beliefs and some may just call it is the power of nature. However, whatever it may be labelled, the important point is that this power does exist and today, I feel it has manifested itself to prove its existence to humanity. It has brought everyone down to their knees. One single microbe had the potential to shut the whole world down and not even the greatest minds on earth could do anything to bring an end to this global pandem

Green Energy

I was reading an article about Green Energy and I felt like talking about this topic on my blog. Here are my thoughts and understanding of the article.  I feel that the shift from the gasoline engine to superior alternatives is a reformation heading towards the new generation at a pace far lower than expected. It has been a long-lived dream that automotive makers will come up with better substitutes to modern car engines. Yet the reality remains that this change is not exactly soon. Oil prices are on the hike and this has imposed reconsiderations of technology but that push will go only so far if it is not further disturbed by a drift towards cheaper oil alternatives. Moreover, cars are very complex machines and gearing a new technology may take years of work and considerations. Besides, people are not always receptive to new technology changes and tend to be skeptical about innovations. Cars have enabled people to live their lives with greater mobility, access, liberty, and opportunit

A Farewell Note - Thoughts when I left School

Every student in school hates their school the most. Guess what? Every student who leaves school misses it the most. A few years ago, I was on the other side of the table, but today as an alumnus from this school, I certainly feel that way. A single walk from the reception to the bus stand is enough to fill my mind with buzzing memories. Every single word, every single emotion, even every single scolding that the place has ever witnessed comes flooding back to me. The things I might have regretted doing at school –volunteering, compulsory attendance at Dnaynostav or even having to walk in straight lines during dispersal—I can’t help but missing them the most right now.  I joined Omkar International School in grade 2. I still remember the first day. I stood like a clueless newbie, and I was distinctly frightened. I began crying and it was Gautami Miss who took me to my classroom. My journey began that day, and even after 10 years, that day is still the closest to my heart. It’s been a l

A Book Review - 7 Habits of Leadership: A Powerful Guide to Become a Super Leader

I recently read a book titled - 7 Habits of Leadership: A Powerful Guide to Become a Super Leader by John Covey. I really liked it and thought it would make an interesting read.  Here is the link to buy the book:  7 Habits of Leadership | John Covey | Amazon These are my thoughts about this book:  The book has a lucid and easy to understand language with a systematic interpretation of the 7 important values at the core of successful leadership. It, breaks each skill into smaller components and explains them.  The author has accurately identified common questions that arise in readers' minds and provides convincing answers to these questions while also  constructing applications of these values in real life scenarios.  There are numerous resources to learn more about certain topics and expand knowledge and understanding of the tip with real life examples to explain the significance of certain tips and understand the impact these little things can have on corporate relationships. I f

A Heart to Heart Conversation on the Importance of Voting

I have never been quite too keen on learning about voting, politics, rights and responsibilities or anything related to democracy as a whole. However, now I feel embarrassed to reiterate this, specifically after the amount of learning I received at a session I attended a few months back. I realized the gravity  of being a voter in this session.  Every vote counts,  and so does the person we vote for. This session taught me that we must be responsible enough as citizens of the United States of America , to be cognizant of not just who we are voting for,  but also what we stand for when we support these people. Voting is a right, and responsibility,  and the greatest power of democracy. Therefore, making informed decisions when electing our representatives is a moral obligation at the federal..., state and local elections. Through the conversation, I acquired more information about voting districts, State elections, the people who are representing me in the state legislatures,  as well a

Sociological Imagination - A Concept by C. W. Mills

I cam across a fancy concept by a renowned sociologist, C.W. Mills, called Sociological Imagination. I tried to use this concept and imagine a personal circumstance that could be analysed from this lens. In fact, I came up with quite an interesting read. Take a look: Marriage and family are social institutions that have a particularly large amount of individual involvement and emotion attached to them. As a result, the slightest change in these societal structures has a direct impact on the individuals involved. Divorce is practically the dissolution of these social structures and therefore, is a major personal trouble. Divorce is caused because of personal differences but also results in a number of personal consequences. In addition, marriage is a function of society that intends to maintain social stability. However, as divorce is becoming increasingly common, one cannot cease to question the viability of marriages in today’s society and the possible societal concerns encouraging di

My Subculture

India has one of the world’s most oldest and diverse cultures. Spanning an area of 1.3 million miles squared and a population of 1.4 billion, Indian culture is not devoid of variety in norms, values, traditions and customs. The Indian society is divided into a number of different sects that follow cultures of their own kind.  The subculture that I identify with is called the Gujarati culture. The subculture is named so since the people following this subculture belong to the region of Gujarat, a western state in India. Gujarat derives its name from Gujara , a clan of White Huns that conquered the territory in the early centuries of human history. Gujarat is characteristically identified with the color and vibrancy of its costumes, foods and festivals. The traditional Gujarati costume for women is called “ chaniya choli ”. This costume incorporates a flared, lively skirt adorned with mirrors and a short chest-length blouse that is covered with a “ dupatta ” or multi-coloured rectangu

Racial Discrimination - A OPINION

In recent times, the Black Lives Matter Movement has gained significant momentum after the sad death of George Flyyod. The whole nation is mourning him and for good reason. The atmosphere surrounding this incident reminded me of an essay I had written on this topic for my college. I thought of sharing it with all of you.  (Please note that this is just an individual opinion. I do not intend to hurt or infringe any rights, feelings, emotions of any race, ethnicity or background. This is simply a personal opinion.) Discrimination can occur in multiple forms. One type of discrimination is individual discrimination, which is the “denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals because of prejudice or other arbitrary reasons”. (Schaefer, 2020:232). This means that a person is deprived of certain abilities or privileges on account of biases towards his/her ethnic or racial minority. Such a person may not be entitled to the same benefits as another, primarily due to a difference of ra

Can Science Ever Be God?

The definition of God has a very broad spectrum. God can be defined differently in terms of faith and science. Faith defines god as an omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent being. For science, it is basically the energy that sparked the universe. God is subjective to different perspectives and exists to elucidate what science cannot. As long as science cannot justify certain phenomena God will continue to exist and as long as God exists, science cannot become God. Humans are limited by time, mortality and space. The part of the universe we live in is like a fish in a black bag. It will explore solely the realm it is restricted to. Yet there is an unlimited stretch of knowledge lying outside the bag. Neither can the fish experience it nor can it see it. The same goes with the science in the capacity of humans. We are restrained by this ‘observable universe’ that surrounds us and we cannot escape its quarantine. Popular theories assert the expansion of the universe. This crea

Ethical Considerations of Cosmetic Surgery: What I Have to Say

In my last post, I talked about how I have always wanted to be a cosmetic surgeon. Some people have often argued that this is a very controversial field in medicine. So I did some research on some of the most pressing ethical leadership challenges facing those serving in this career field today. Here is my take on how I believe I would exercise positive leadership to combat this challenge.  Cosmetic surgery is a defined niche in the medical field, but it is one such clinical field that has eternally faced a morally gray area - the extent to which beauty should be a product of medical reconstructive practices. Many argue that birth defects and genetic deformations ought to be corrected to ensure normal human life but aesthetic enhancements for pleasure should not be encouraged beyond a certain degree. But, how much is too much? With the increasing popularity of cosmetic surgery, leading surgeons are faced with a major ethical challenge between regulating their patients' deman
